Community Development
The Community Development Department promotes development and livability and works to make St. Joseph a safe and attractive community to live and locate a business.  Department staff are available to provide professional assistance to guide residents, landowners and businesses through the development process.

The department is responsible for the review and management of development and redevelopment in the City of St. Joseph. The department coordinates the preparation of a comprehensive plan which lays out the City's long-range guide to how property should be developed.

The Community Development Department is comprised of the following divisions:

2017 Comprehensive Plan Update 

The City of St. Joseph has hired Community Design Group (CDG) to complete the City's Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan is a guide on how the community wants to develop into the future. Plan components include land use, transportation, housing, economic development, parks and trails, and sustainability. The Comprehensive Plan process will begin in January or February and will take several months to complete. More information to come in the next several weeks on how you can become involved and share your input in shaping your community!
